Suicides and attempted suicides seem to be cropping up more and more in media stories lately.
- Army suicides up 80 per cent since the start of the Iraq War
- Two Murdoch journalists reportedly attempt suicide as pressure mounts
- 'Chicken Man' who kept dozens of roosters in his backyard 'commits suicide in house explosion as authorities closed in for eviction'
- Second Person Found Dead In Massive Homeowners Association Scandal
- Greek Suicide Rate Skyrockets As Bankster Imposed Austerity Measures Drive Cradle Of Democracy Into Poverty
And yet, no stories about anyone actually addressing the issue of suicide in society, which is unfortunate.
Something odd is going on out there when people are opting for death over dealing with their situations. Perhaps it's a result of the recession, where people feel there are no resources to help them deal with their situations and the only way out of whatever bind they are in is death.
It's unfortunate that throughout this entire economic crisis the media has, from what I can tell, given no focus to stories about how people should cope with stressful situations.
For the past three years the media seems stuck in this 'slow down to look at the car crash at the side of the road' mentality - whether it be war items, economic items or political items.
The media really needs to start doing more advocacy journalism where they start covering solutions to society ills.
I'm sure there are folks out there with answers and insights, so why aren't they getting media coverage?
