Oh for Pete's sake - Obama, get some new PR advisors

So Obama recently sent an email to his campaign supporters. I really don't understand Obama anymore. For the so-called best communicator in presidential history, it's like he took an anti-communications pill and now is just puking out stale and ineffective words.

He needs a new PR team pronto.

Here is the letter he sent and I'll include, in red, a PR translation as to what he is really saying:

Friend --
[You're still my friend right?]

Today I asked for a joint session of Congress where I will lay out a clear plan to get Americans back to work. Next week, I will deliver the details of the plan and call on lawmakers to pass it.
Whether they will do the job they were elected to do is ultimately up to them.
[Yes I can. And yes you can. But they can't and if they can't then none of us can. See, it's all them.]
But both you and I can pressure them to do the right thing. We can send the message that the American people are playing by the rules and meeting their responsibilities -- and it's time for our leaders in Congress to meet theirs. And we must hold them accountable if they don't.
[They should do what I say, and if they don't, then when things fall apart it's not my fault. You should vote them out of office, not me.]

So I'm asking you to stand with me in calling on Congress to step up and take action on jobs:

No matter how things go in the weeks and months ahead, this will be an important challenge for our organization.
[Hey, I have no clue how things are going to go - I know I say we're making progress, but really, who knows. Hopefully the train doesn't come right off the tracks. But it's not like it's in my hands at this point. I'm just the president after all.]
It's been a long time since Congress was focused on what the American people need them to be focused on.
I know that you're frustrated by that. I am, too.

[Even though we had a majority democratic congress, and senate, and me in the White House when I first took office, it's so frustrating that no one is focused on you the American people. Oh wait, I mean, today, ya, today, now that it's a republican congress, NOW they aren't focused on you. Shame on them.]
That's why I'm putting forward a set of bipartisan proposals to help grow the economy and create jobs -- that means strengthening our small businesses, giving needed breaks to middle-class families, while taking responsible steps to bring down our deficit.
[If I give you a tax break you'll vote for me right? I know, you are working harder for less money, that's if you are lucky enough to have a job, and everything is costing more from milk to gas, but a tax break sounds good doesn't it? Let's make a deal, you vote for me and I'll take less of your money next tax season. It's not a big deal really, instead of taking money directly from you, we'll just print it ourselves. Come on, this works when republicans do it, tax breaks for votes, let's make a deal.]

I'm asking lawmakers to look past short-term politics and take action on that plan. But we've got to do this together.
[And by together I mean when they don't do what I tell them to, you have to get really really angry at them. But remember, don't get angry at me, I'm on your side. It's you and me versus the congress, we can do this. I need your short-term help to put political pressure on them so that they look past short-term politics, which is bad, except in this instance where it's ok because we are right and they are wrong.]

I will deliver this message to Congress next week, but I'm asking you to stand alongside me today:
http://my.barackobama.com/Time-To-Act
More to come,
Barack
[And by stand alongside me I mean give us your email address so we can show congress how many people are with me. I don't actually mean stand alongside me, unless of course you have $35,000 to attend one of my fund raising dinners. Then you can stand along side me and Warren Buffet if you want. Otherwise, just send us your email address. Thanks and Too-da-loo.]

Basic rule of PR, don't say things towards others, which if you were to apply against yourself, would make you look bad.  Obama, from day one, should have been building a brand of leadership, and yet, he's done everything possible to ensure the opposite.

Cranking up a 'blame congress' theme, while it is justified depending on how you look at it, yet again weakens any leadership elements to his brand. Turning to the American people for their 'help' may play to the populous on the surface, but all it really says is that  'As your president, I'm ineffective. So you guys have to help me out here or I won't be able to get anything done."

E-cigarettes: A PR battle Health Canada cannot win?

So I've now been using an e-cigarette (e-cig) for two months and thought I'd talk a bit about how I see the upcoming battle between Health Canada and e-cigs going. First though, let's do a quick overview of what exactly an e-cig is. Basically an e-cig vaporizes liquid that contains nicotine. The vapor is then inhaled. People who use e-cigs are called vapers (not smokers). Because the liquid is atomized (ie. vaporized), not burned the way tobacco is, vapers do not consider themselves 'smokers' in anyway. An e-cig is comprised of basically three components: The tank - this is the component that holds the juice (sometimes referred to as e-juice or e-liquid). The atomizer - this a coil and wick unit that atomizes the juice. When the coil is heated (from the battery) it atomizes the juice that has soaked into the wick. The battery - batteries for e-cigs come in various capacities (some last 8 hours, others 40+ hours, depending on their size).  The ba...

More evidence of the Internet Revolution

Bell ushers in new era with CTV deal  So Bell has purchased CTV.  Not really that big a deal under normal circumstances, except when you realize why they did it... Driving convergence this time, the Internet-enabled mobile devices such as smart phones and computer tablets are threatening home television’s lock on viewers. Bell, like its rivals, wants to offer more content to its subscribers, however they receive the signal. Viewers are increasingly interested in watching their favourite shows on their phones while they ride the bus or sit in the park, and the cable and phone companies that have served as middle men between viewers and broadcasters were in danger of being marginalized. You know what sort of worries me about this kind of acquisition? It's clearly an attempt to own (control) content. When they say marginalized what they really mean is service providers being nothing more than dumb pipes - providing connectivity to the internet and nothing more. As ...
