PR Daily reported that when it comes to social media, journalists use LinkedIn more than any other outlet.
I'm a litle surprised, as I thought Twitter would be #1, followed by Facebook and then Linkedin.
Personally I think LinkedIn is under valued in the market. Right now the problem it has is that feature-wise its still so basic. It really hasn't changed much in the past three-to-five years.
But if LinkedIn ever gets aggressive in its growth strategy, watch out. While they would have to launch services outside the LinkedIn service portal (to cater to those who are more social oriented than business oriented) their HUGE base of professionals would give them an instant and large population to seed new services.
I don't see why they couldn't launch a Twitter-like service and dethrone Twitter over time.
I also think they could easily knock out the career sites like Monster.
I also don't know why RIM and LinkedIn haven't done some kind of partnership also. Yes, I know you can get a LinkedIn app on your RIM device, but there's a perfect opportunity to do something more given both companies are so focused on business users.
RIM needs more integration with social media apps and LinkedIn can use more presence in the mobile space - you'd think these two would find a way to work together to create brand synergy.
Anyway, there are so many things LinkedIn could be doing to grow way bigger than it already is. While I'm out of the markets, one stock I'm continuing to watch is LinkedIn, simply because I think they have the greatest opportunity to figure out a model of monetizing social media.
