I wrote a blog entry a while ago about how social media is overhyped - value versus perceived value.
So I was pleased to see an article recently - Social Media Has Little Impact on Online Retail Purchases [STUDY] - which seems to support my hypothesis.
Socmed appears to contribute less than two per cent towards online sales (and when you think about it, online buyers should be the most receptive to socmed).
I love the quote at the end of the article:
Dias says she isn’t surprised by the survey’s results because she’s been telling retail clients for some time that social media outreach is a waste of time and money. Says Dias: “It’s been a mystery to me why the media is excited about social media. From a retail and commerce perspective, it seems to have no effect.”
