Is it wrong that this makes me laugh my ass off at this point?

Obama gave his weekly address the other day and tossed out some tough talk.

It may not be PC to say this and some people may not like it, but when I hear him talk now it makes me laugh most of the time.

The guy is three years in to his presidency and he's still talking like George Bush is still president but if you get behind him he'll try to clean up the mess.

He talks about higher taxes on the rich and closing tax loop holes on corporations. Ummm, fine, so why haven't you done it yet?

I liked Obama. I had high hopes for him. I thought he had the potential to be a modern day hybrid of Gandhi and capitalism wrapped into one.

But at this point, he just makes me laugh. I mean, he's 75 per cent through his term and what he's basically saying now is "Look folks, things are an absolute mess. We've got to actually do something about this now. Tough choices have to be made."

hahah - yes, things are a mess and you should have tackled that mess (the economy and the deficit) three years ago! It's just so absurd to me that his talking points today are the same talking points he had three years ago - it gives the salient impression that he hasn't done anything of substance with the three years he's had to work with.

From a PR perspective I've felt that Obama has blown whatever messaging strategy he had a while ago. As I stated pretty clearly in a past post - Bye Bye Obama.

2012 should be fascinating. The only thing that might save Obama is that the Republican field is so dismal (and many of their core talking points are pretty absurd). He may also be able to still play the 'Republicans (Bush) ran this country in to the ground.' card, but I doubt it.

I think if the Republicans can field someone even half decent, that Obama will lose in 2012.  I'd like to think it would be Ron Paul, that would be one heck of a political boxing match watching Paul go up against Obama in election debates.

A Look Back on 2017 / A Look Forward to 2018

Hard to believe it's been two years (and six books) since I started publishing. Thought I'd take a moment to look back on the journey, some of the highlights and what's in store for the future. Eyes Wide Open I had no idea what this publishing path would be like - I went in blind with nothing more than an interest in telling a story. It turned out to be way harder than I could have imagined. You'd think writing a book wouldn't be that difficult, but it is. It's not so much the book that readers see that's hard to produce, it's the ideas and writing that get left on the cutting room floor. But beyond the actual stories, learning Photoshop to do my own covers, understanding how to market my books, learning how to create print versions, and a dozen other things really opened my eyes to how much effort is required to get a book to market. Along the way I’ve had my moments where I questioned my sanity to put myself through the process. But...

E-cigarettes: A PR battle Health Canada cannot win?

So I've now been using an e-cigarette (e-cig) for two months and thought I'd talk a bit about how I see the upcoming battle between Health Canada and e-cigs going. First though, let's do a quick overview of what exactly an e-cig is. Basically an e-cig vaporizes liquid that contains nicotine. The vapor is then inhaled. People who use e-cigs are called vapers (not smokers). Because the liquid is atomized (ie. vaporized), not burned the way tobacco is, vapers do not consider themselves 'smokers' in anyway. An e-cig is comprised of basically three components: The tank - this is the component that holds the juice (sometimes referred to as e-juice or e-liquid). The atomizer - this a coil and wick unit that atomizes the juice. When the coil is heated (from the battery) it atomizes the juice that has soaked into the wick. The battery - batteries for e-cigs come in various capacities (some last 8 hours, others 40+ hours, depending on their size).  The ba...
